Public Outreach and EducationWESTCARB’s outreach program promotes two-way communication on CO2 storage technologies with the research community, policymakers, the public, media, non-governmental organizations, and industry. The partnership is committed to sharing information and gaining feedback from stakeholders on the diverse aspects of CCS technology and project development for both terrestrial and geologic carbon storage. Important WESTCARB activities include hosting multi-stakeholder meetings in the region’s major metropolitan areas and in communities where field projects are being proposed. WESTCARB has also supported the Keystone Center’s teacher training program on climate change, wherein teachers learn about carbon sequestration, as well as examining the broader implications of climate change. To foster CCS professional development, a suite of courses is now offered in the western region by the Carbon Tech Alliance. Each year, WESTCARB investigators speak at technical conferences and meetings around the world to disseminate WESTCARB information on the science, costs, benefits, and applications of carbon capture, utilization, and storage. WESTCARB reports are available to the public, as are presentations from major meetings.
